Childbirth Classes

Are you giving birth for the first time and looking to approach your birth with positivity and empowerment? Have you birthed before but felt powerless or had an undesired outcome, and want to reclaim your birthing power?

Childbirth education plays a significant role in your birthing experience.

Couples who took a childbirth class had significantly lower rate of epidural use (24% vs 69%), Pitocin augmentation, and cesarean birth, compared with couples who did not take a class (Australia, 2016). On average, class groups also had a shorter pushing stage, fewer cases of perineal trauma, and fewer cases of newborns needing to be resuscitated.

Our childbirth class is designed to teach the physiological progression of labour and birth, various strategies for working through labour with a support partner, and some instances in which medical interventions can be beneficial. We will discuss the risks and benefits of various interventions, but we encourage you to take the information and make your own decisions about what is right for you and your family.

We recommend taking this class between 30–34 weeks gestation. Please note that this class is held in person in Edmonton, Alberta.
